Healing is a Choice by Stephen Arterburn

The revised and updated book Healing is a Choice now comes equipped with a full workbook.  Stephen uses this book to touch the life of his readers by examining deep hurts and issues they are facing or have struggled with for many years, by reading this you will focus on Ten Decisions That Will Transform Your Life & Ten Lies That Can Prevent You From Making Them.

We struggle with hurts all the time, it seems that in life we are either coming out of a crisis, in a crisis or going into a crisis, this book has the ability to get your down the road of recovery…that is if you choose to apply the steps that are in this book to your life.  I’m considering using this book as a future study guide in my men’s group, I enjoy this book because it challenges the reader to examine their own life and realize they have some important and even difficult choices to make that will either help heal the hurt, or lead them down the path of regret.  I recommend this book to anyone who has a hurt and needs the “…power to heal—physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.”

Heaven is for Real for kids by Todd & Sonja Burpo

Based on the #1 New York Times bestseller Heaven is For Real, Colton shares in his own words as told to his parents what he experienced in Heaven.  From being in the hospital to being in front of God’s throne with Jesus and coming back to earth, Colton describes his experience and what heaven is really like as kids of all ages enjoy illustrations by Wilson Ong.  Kids will also enjoy answered questions that kids have been asking about Heaven is for Real.

This is the best children’s book I have ever come across.  Having Colton’s experience and what he has seen to be put in words and pictures is not only remarkable, but a huge encouragement to kids and adults.  Though the book says for kids, I find myself reading it over many times and trying to visualize Heaven for myself.  The art work has a unique touch by giving Heaven that certain glow that we would never experience on earth.  I really appreciate the scripture reference on each page and knowing that the Bible describes the gates and walls of Heaven as Colton described.  Colton’s experience and others like his is a true sign that God is trying to get our attention that we all need Jesus in order to enter Heaven and be with Him.  I recommend this to everyone, this book is not just for kids.

The Christian Zombie Killers Handbook by Jeff Kinley

Jeff Kinley, a pastor, speaker and author takes a counselor’s perspective on killing zombie’s.  Well, that is the story line of the book, but it also has a unique twists by adding a spiritual and biblical follow up of each chapter, wish also a study guide in the back.  Jeff has counseled many people and have often received the response that the sin people deal with is like a Zombie living inside them.  Jeff goes chapter by chapter with a fictional story and then a follow up afterwards to help the reader slay any Zombie that may be lurking inside themselves.

When I first saw the cover of this book and why Jeff wrote it, I thought it was an impressive move, however, although there is a content warning on the back that some scenes and descriptions in this book are not suitable for younger audience, I questioned why evening adding the scenes and descriptions when this book, along with the title and cover, is going to attract to most younger audiences.  I understand the intentions of reaching out to the certain audience, but does it have to be as graphic as the worldly books out there?  That’s the main problem I have with this book, will it actually help someone in their spiritual walk with Christ while implementing gory scenes into their minds?

Has God Spoken by Hank Hanegraaff

Hank Hanegraaff, the host of the Bible Answer Man, quickly begins to point out flaws of the Quran and Mormon books in the introduction and why the Bible is the only source of knowing that God has spoken.  Hank organized the book into four sections, Manuscript’s, Archaeologist’s, Prophecies and Scriptural.

I do appreciate Hanks’ knowledge of being able to put this together, however, this is not a book for those who are looking for an easy read.  With the picture of the scroll on the cover should give it away that this will be theological and demands your attention to grasp what is being said.  Hank offers very detailed explanation for why the Bible is authentic and the only historical source of God’s true word.  You may wonder why my rating of this book is lower than what my review would show.  I have recently discovered that Hank believes that the Book Heaven is for Real does not match what the Bible says.  This concerns me with Hank and his actual understanding of the Bible and the experience that people have with near death experiences.  Though he may be the Bible Answer Man, doesn’t mean Hank has everything figured out, though I do respect his integrity to bring forth the Gospel.

Gods Love Letters to You!

Dr. Larry Crabb takes the devotions to a new level, a more intimate and personal level with God.  On this 40 day journey you will encounter daily insight from different books of the Bible along with a message as if it is directly from God.  This devotion is focused on sharing God’s love for us.

When I first read started reading this I thought that maybe it was a good idea to write it as if it is actually coming from God Himself… but now I’m not so sure.  I know Dr. Crabb means well, but I know the devotions are writing by another human and am unable to accept it as if it is personally coming from the Lord.  My concern is that we’ll write messages and may end up degrading God in the process.  For me it’s the whole God’s ways are higher than our ways and His understanding is higher than our understanding.  I’m not big on making artificial messages from God.  Jesus talks through the Holy Spirit and the Bible, I think it’s best to leave it that way.

Billy Graham In Quotes by Franklin Graham with Donna Lee Toney

Billy Graham’s son Franklin Graham teams with Donna Lee Toney and brings together a collage of quotes Billy Graham has spoken in his seven decades of ministry.  Billy Graham, 92, has preached the Word of God, bringing salvation to the lost through the gospels in more than 185 countries.  Franklin Graham is the President and CEO of both the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan’s Purse.  Donna Lee Toney is Franklin Graham’s colleague of Franklin Graham has also been involved with the ministries for over 30 years.

I’ve always enjoyed listening to Billy Graham on TV during his crusades.  You can find many quotes that are profound and straight forward.  In his own words it is clear that Billy Graham spoke with authority that comes from God.  It’s hard to imagine that his quotes range from seven decades of his ministry.  I found the book easy to read as the quotes are categorized by their topics, which there are about 107 different topics.  If you ever want to have a daily quote, this book I recommend to those daily readers.  It would also be beneficial to bible college students, pastors and those desiring to go deeper with their relationship with Jesus Christ!

The Quotable Rogue: The Ideals of Sarah Palin In Her Own Words by Matt Lewis

Matt Lewis does a great job by offering article clips of newspapers and quotes said my Sarah Palin.  One can get to know more about Sarah Palins intentions and directional goal when it comes to both life and politics.  From topics such as abortion, Barah Obama, life of Americans to civil rights, one can get a deeper perspective on the goals and objectives of “The Quotable Rogue.”

I’ve always learned to take the media with a grain of salt.  Many facts that are not accurate is one of the most irritable things I find most displeasing about the media.  This book brings many of the media quotes of Sarah Palin and allows you to compare them to each other, giving you a better idea and ideas of Sarah Palin.  However I have my disagreements with some of the quotes concerning other politians, I have come to learn how strong willed and honest Sarah Palin really is.  It is very fitting to recommend this book to not only those interested in politics and our country, but everyone that is an American citizen, because it’s important to get to know who’s running our country!.

Having met John Maxwell before, one can tell that he is a caring Christian man who cares about the directional path of others.  If you’re a serious business man who longs to be successful while putting your faith in Christ first, this book is for you!   I agree that belief focuses your talent, which is something we tend forget that matters.  Character also protects our talent.  Responsibility doesn’t just come with business, it comes with who and what we represent.   Learn what shapes your talent and those who affect it and how to continue to maintain it through your career.

Max On Life by Max Lucado

Max Lucado approaches many questions that he has been asked relating to daily living and biblical insight.  There are questions that many people are uncomfortable asking that Max Lucado also tackles with an answer.   With one hundred-seventy two questions with Max’s best answers backed up with scripture, one is certain to find some of their tough questions being answered.

I enjoy this book because there are many questions out there that a lot of people are afraid to ask or just don’t know who to go to for help.  This book is like counseling on the go, you don’t have to set up an appointment to ask a deep question or talk to someone in person.  However this may not be as affective as real counseling, it sure beats letting time pass by without knowing what’s deeply on your heart!  I would recommend this book possibly to everyone!  At least those who struggle with day to day questions on living, raising kids, biblical questions and many other deep related questions they are dealing with.

A Conversation with GOD by Alton Gansky

Alton Gansky brings a new approach to answering questions as if they were told straight from God, Jesus and other known biblical characters.  Alton provides a scripture guide in the back that allows discussions among small groups who may study the most important topics of our Christian faith in each chapter.

It took a little time getting used to how the questions were being presented as if they were from God and Jesus themselves, which also seemed to help bring the Bible alive.  It was also great going through the material that focused on the most important topics of our Christian faith.  The notes section in the back was helpful by providing all the scriptures for each chapter and what version they originate from.  I recommend this to individuals and small groups who may have any doubts or concerns about their faith and those who are looking to deepen their spiritual walk Christ.

The Final Summit by Andy Andrews

Andy Andrews shares an exciting story of a man named David Ponder and how he must lead a summit to find the answer that will save civilization once and for all. Having Gabriel, the archangel himself, guide David on his quest, David is giving the opportunity to summon five travelers to help, such as Abraham Lincoln and King David.

Andy Andrews did a fascinating job at writing The Final Summit. It was inspiring and captivation and it had my attention the entire time. It’s a great read with a lot of suspense and important elements essential to our daily lives. You will find yourself being apart of the summit meeting and trying to figure out the answer yourself as your also taken back by important figures of America’s history and the stories they have to share. I recommend this book to those who enjoy a mystery book that has the ability to speak wisdom into your life. I agree with Dave Ramsey that Andy Andrews is a “Life whisperer.”

Pujols: More Than the Game by Scott Lamb & Tim Ellsworth

Scott Lamb and Tim Ellsworth allows baseball fans to get a deeper look and insight on what matter's most to Pujols, his relationship and faith in Jesus Christ. It's not all about baseball here, Pujols lives everyday knowing that there is a higher power behind it all, God and his Son Jesus! Even though Pujols has a chance at being known has the greatest player of baseball of all time, God is ultimately first in his life.

I'm not a huge sport buff, but reading this book has given me a better understanding that a baseball player, such as Pujols, doesn't just live life by the throw of a ball and the swing of a baseball bat, but that Pujols is more focused on Jesus. I have a greater respect for Pujols and his efforts to make the best of his life on and off the field. Many times an athlete can get caught up in themselves when they become a great athlete and lose the sense and purpose of what really matters most. I recommend this book mostly to baseball fans or sports fans in general. This book highlights Pujols stats and why he has a chance to be known as the greatest baseball player of all time!

The Principle of the Path by Andy Stanley

Andy Stanley’s book Principle of the Path is geared toward those who want to find the path to get them where they want to be. Andy engages great illustrations along with his own personal experience to help the reader understand there are choices we will have to make that will determine our path and destination. From relationships to moral issues Andy explains how our influences, reactions and our relationship with God are extreme roles that will either help us get where we want to be, lead us far away from it.

I recently received this book and I could not put it down once I started reading. Andy does a great job at talking directly to the reader and connecting his points to the principle of the path. The book also includes a study guide for each chapter in the back of the book which allows one to evaluate their own personal lives. Andy offers great guidance. This book has potential in changing the lives of those who looking to find that path to take them where they want to be. I recommend this to high school students, college students, those looking for their dream job or a fresh start in life. It’s only been five days since I received this book and it has had a huge impact on my life. Thanks Andy.

The Jesus Inquest: The Case For and Against the Resurrection of the Christ by Charles Foster

Charles Foster book The Jesus Inquest is for those who have doubt and are seeking more answers. Charles went on his own mission to find the evidence and places of events to give his own readers the “…tools necessary to debate the most remarkable and controversial event of world history…” Charles also gives the reader sixteen pages of photos of places and objects that are both crucial for and against the resurrection of Christ.
I found it very interesting on the different views against the case for Christ. As a firm believer in Christ I found myself asking, how can someone actually believe such nonsense? This book has helped me to be more aware of the other perspectives of the resurrection of Christ to be. Although Charles Foster brought in the case against Christ’s resurrection, he also did his part to ensure biblical truth was exposed to defend the Christian faith. I found it was a good move to end each debate with the Christian defense. Due to the dry reading in this book, my attention would have wondered if it weren’t for the photos given in the middle section.
